Detectives in southern Oregon are investigating the death of a man whose body was found within the perimeter of the Peninger fire late Thursday morning.
Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office spotted the body in what’s believed to be a homeless camp near Central Point as they surveyed fire damage from a helicopter. The deputies, along with officials from Fire District 3, were surveying damage along the Bear Creek Greenway, which stretches from Ashland to Central Point.
Officials do not know when the man died or whether it was because of the fire.
A medical examiner is investigating and detectives are working to identify the victim.
