Fire crews are working to contain a new wildfire that broke out Sunday southeast of Bend.
As of 4 p.m. Sunday, the Bessie Butte Fire was burning an estimated 12 acres of brush, grass and ponderosa pines. Crews are blocking several roads in the area near China Hat Road at Knott Road.

Seven fire engines, a dozer, a water tender, two single-engine air tankers, and a large air tanker are responding to help put out the flames.
Earlier in the day, fire officials said crews are getting the upper hand on the 79,000-acre Substation Fire burning to the north near The Dalles.
