A 60-year-old man died earlier this week due to a southern Oregon wildfire, authorities say.
An autopsy found that Robert L. Walker, described by Jackson County Sheriff’s detectives as a homeless man living along the Bear Creek Greenway in Central Point, died Tuesday from heat-related injuries caused by the Penninger Fire.
The fire was first reported Tuesday and fully contained the same day. The flames torched 97 acres, destroyed five outbuildings, damaged another and burned three homes. The fire is believed to have been human caused.
Walker’s body was found Thursday morning.
The sheriff’s office asks anyone with more information on what caused the wildfire to contact it’s tipline at 541-774-8333 and reference case number 18-14794.
